#oneperday18
This week's task was to create a comic strip of a fact that happened during my school years. I chose to illustrate a story of a time I got in trouble for talking with my friends in class in grade 7. The teacher came over to our desk to tell us off. However, she sat on one side of the circular table causing it to topple over! She ended up falling on the floor and the whole class couldn't help but laugh.

I have never drawn a comic before and felt very out of my comfort zone with this activity. Overall, it turned out relatively okay, but I could definitely improve in this style.
Chatter

Technique: Pen sketch using range of pen thicknesses and line drawing techniques.

Process: To create this image, I began by using a 0.1 pen and drawing the basic outlines. Then, I used a 0.2 and 0.4 pen to add definition and shading. I used the cross hatching technique for shadows and the parallel line technique for the girl's hair. I then used a 0.6 pen to add the darkest areas of shading. Text was added last.

Reflection: Overall, I am happy with this image since I have never drawn a comic panel before. However, I need to improve on adding darker areas. I got nervous to add any more ink, but I think it would have looked more defined if I did.
SHHH!

Reflection: This is my least favourite image from the 5 created this week. I tried to add more to the story by showing the location - a classroom. However, the angles and proportions look off. Nevertheless, I like how this image shows the expressions of the girls and the teacher. I feel like almost everyone can relate to being in class and having the teacher look at you like this.
Oh No!

Reflection: I like how the teacher's hair turned out in this one. I think it shows the line stroke technique nicely. Also, I am happy with the proportions. The teacher looks bigger and more demeaning, whilst the girls look small and scared in the background. This tells the story well. However, I could improve by adding more shadows to this one - under the desk for example.
Wobble

Reflection: Overall, I really like this image. I have used more shading to define the desk and chairs. Also, I like how the simple curvy lines show the viewer that the table is wobbling. However, I could improve by adding more line work on the teacher's clothing to show shadows and highlights.
The Fall

Technique: Pen sketch using range of pen thicknesses and line drawing techniques.

Process: To create this image, I began by using a 0.1 pen and drawing the basic outlines. Then, I used a 0.2 and 0.4 pen to add definition and shading. I used the cross hatching technique for shadows and the parallel line technique for the girl's hair. I then used a 0.6 pen to add the darkest areas of shading. Text was added last.

Reflection: This final comic panel is my favourite of all 5. I love how you can see the emotions of all the characters clearly. Also, I think it is a funny ending to the story. Again, I needed to add more shading and darkness to this image to improve it. Overall, I have learnt from this activity that I need to not be afraid to add darkness and heavy shading. Next time, I will be more confident with it!
